Southeast Asian adventure itinerary | Part 1

Let’s begin our story about the incredible month of traveling with a short itinerary of where we were and then deeper into details!

Day 1: Flight from Vilnius to Malmo + airport shuttle directly to the center of Copenhagen. Exploring city center, Nyhavn, Paper island street food market, Christiania.

Day 2: Exploring rest of Copenhagen, lots of rain, too little “Little Mermaid”, getting lost in District 2.

Day 3: Flight to Istanbul and 12 hour layover there waiting for a flight to Kuala Lumpur. Walking through the best places we have been just 6 months ago and a flight to Kuala Lumpur late at night.

Day 4: Arriving to Kuala Lumpur and KLIA transit train to central station. Late night dinner in Chinatown and Jalan Petalling street.

Day 5: Lots of walking through the famous sights of KL. Petronas twin tower, KLCC park, KL tower, Bukit Nanas forest reserve, Jamek Mosque, Merdeka square, Jalan Alor street food stalls.

Day 6: Train to Butterworth and ferry to Georgetown, Penang island. Amazing lunch at Kapitan restaurant and Red Garden hawker centre.

Day 7: Walking through Georgetown exceptional street art, Chew Jetty, fort Cornwallis, St. George church. Getting up to Penang hill and trying to walk down through the jungle.

Day 8: Kek Lok Si temple with a statue of Guanyin (higher than 30 metres). Dinner in the Red Garden hawker centre.

Vietnam

Day 9: Off to Vietnam! Flight to Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon) and shuttle to our hostel. First Vietnamese Banh Mi, Pho Bo and spring rolls, Backpackers district nightlife.

Day 10: Walking around Ho Chi Minh City – Reunification palace, Notre Dam cathedral, War Remnants museum, Ben Thanh market and back to Backpacker street (or sometimes called beer street).

Day 11: A bit of chill before heading to North of Vietnam.

Day 12: Early plane to Haiphong, taxi to the port and ferry to Cat ba island. Lunch, dinner and beautiful sunset.

Day 13: Renting a motorbike and exploring inland of Cat ba: Hospital Cave, National Park, the Highest peak of the island, Beach no. 2.

Day 14: Walking around Cat ba city: Canon fort, viewpoints of Cat ba, catching the sun in the beach.

Day 15: Full day boat trip along Lan Ha bay to Halong bay and Monkey island. Bit of kayaking and open water swimming.

Day 16: Heading to Hanoi by ferry and bus. Meeting lithuanian friend in Hoa Lo prison (knd of strange meeting point, we know) and spending the rest of the day in Old quarter with lots of beer, bars and street food!

Day 17: Hanoi market, meeting friend, walking around some top secret military structures through Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. Amazing dinner with local family at their home. Late night flight to Manila, Philippines.
